Associate Professor of Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering


Research focus is on designing biomaterials and sensors for tissue engineering applications. Scholarship is of high impact on the bioengineering field and has garnered over 2500 citations. Between 2005-2018, Dr. Leach has mentored 13 graduate students, 47 undergraduates and 13 others (high school students, postdocs, technicians) of which the majority are women and/or from groups underrepresented in the engineering field. She is also a faculty advocate mentor of engineering undergraduates through the Hill-Lopes Scholar ProgramCWIT (Center for Women in Technology), and the NSF-funded I-cubed program. Dr. Leach has served on the MARC U*STAR Steering Committee and selection committees for the UMBC Goldwater Fellowship and Undergraduate Research Program. She is also a member of the 4th ADVANCE Leadership Cohort.
